James R. Elstad

Jim was born on Staten Island, NY, but spent his formative years in Southern California.
After a twenty-eight-year career in the California Army National Guard, which included a three-year enlistment in the U.S. Marines, Jim turned his attention to a long time passion -- history and historical fiction. Having had success with short-form fiction, Jim began to contemplate writing his first novel.

While touring the Petersburg National Battlefield out side of Richmond, Virginia, Jim overheard some Army National Guard officers discussing the events of the historic battle. It was clear to him that, given the opportunity, those men would have fought the war all over again.
